Bantayan Island

Bantayan is a beautiful island in the northern part of Cebu. It has always been a favourite destination of both tourists and locals alike. In Bantayan, Holy Week is observed differently. In Bantayan, you can eat lechon because they have been given an exemption by a Pope during the Spanish era. Other than this difference, the Catholic Church in Bantayan observes the usual Lenten practices.

If you take the mini-bus, it usually stops at every town to pick up or drop off passengers, which can delay your travel time. The good thing about the mini-bus is that it is roomy and you will have your own seat and space. If you ride a V-hire, it travels fast since most of the passengers are going to Hagnaya. However, the V-hire is sometimes too crowded and hot due to an overloading of passengers.

After 2-3 hours’ journey, you will arrive in Hagnaya where you can ride a fast craft or ferry (a 45-minute to an hour’s travel) to Bantayan island. After you disembark, or even before you reach the port in Sta. Fe, you can see miles and miles of lovely beaches that make you feel you are in paradise. Indeed, coming to this beautiful island will take all your troubles away. The locals are very friendly. But just be wary of the porters and the trisikad drivers because they will overcharge you with the tip.

Some of the best resorts in Bantayan are:

  • Octong Cave
  • Marlin’s Beach Resort
  • Kota Beaches
  • Santa Fe Beach Resorts
