Mini Bus

Hiring a taxi service or riding a jeepney for long travel is not advisable since jeepneys have fixed routes; they cannot go directly to a certain place without permission from the Land Transportation Office (LTO). On the other hand, taxis will cost around 2,000 pesos minimum. It could be much higher if the taxi driver senses you are a first-time visitor or a foreigner. Sometimes, these cab drivers have a misconception that foreigners have so much money.

However, if you ride a mini-bus, the driver or conductor cannot overcharge your fare since it has a fixed rate. Besides, it is more comfortable, with bigger spaces and more room to move. There are two terminals for mini-buses in Cebu.

One is for the northern towns of Cebu, composing of:

  • Danao
  • Liloan
  • Compostela
  • Carmen
  • Catmon
  • Borbon
  • Sugod
  • Tabuelan
  • San Remigio
  • Daan Bantayan/Bantayan Island

One is for the southern part of Cebu, serving the following towns:

  • Minglanilla
  • Naga
  • Carcar
  • Sibonga
  • Argao
  • Dalaguete
  • Barili
  • Badian
  • Toledo
  • Balamban

There are many bus operators in these terminals; just take a taxi to get there faster; but there are some jeepneys whose routes pass by the south and north terminals. In addition, V-hires (Van for rent) can also take you to the towns of Cebu, but can sometimes be uncomfortable. Sometimes, a van with a capacity of 15-20 people will accommodate 25-28 people so the passengers inside the van get squeezed like a pack of sardines. On the other hand, in the mini-bus, you will have your own seat, it’s wide, it’s clean and comfortable.

And then, you can have a choice of bus, whether you like the air-conditioned bus or the non-air-conditioned bus which has a lower fare. Most tourists and foreigners opt for the air-conditioned buses to avoid the hot and humid climate of Cebu. There is a plan to modernize the South bus terminal by providing an air-conditioned lounge for waiting passengers and an escalator to reach the shop on the second floor.
